Teaching Facebook

Some apps on Facebook are created by Facebook, like Events and Photos. Other apps are created by outside developers who use Facebook's Platform and comply with Facebook's Developer Principles and Policies.

If you have a question about an app, you should contact the developer of that app through the Contact link on the App's About Page.

Some apps have several different pages on Facebook, but the App About Page is where you can access the app, contact the developer, block the app and more.

To find an app's about page, enter the name of the app in search. Select the result under the Apps heading. This result is the App About Page.

For example, here's how you'd get to the App About Page for Ustream Live:

To learn more about a particular app, visit the App About Page for that app.

You can report an app for abuse by clicking "Report/Contact this Application" at the bottom of any canvas page within the app.

If you are not currently using the app but would like to report it, simply go to the application’s Profile Page on Facebook, and click "Report Application" towards the bottom of the left column. To get to the Profile Page, follow these steps:

1. Enter the application's name in Search.
2. Scroll down and click to see more results. (Do not click on the application’s "Game" result — this will take you to the application’s Canvas Page rather than its Profile Page.)
3. You should be able to locate the application that you’re looking for under Applications. Click View Application to the right of the search result to view the application's Profile Page.

In addition, we’d recommend that you contact the developer who created the application directly so they’re aware of your report. You can report this to the developer by going to the application’s Profile Page and clicking "Contact Developer" towards the bottom of the left column, or by clicking "Report/Contact this Application" at the bottom of any canvas page within the application.

To stop communication with an app, please remove it. If you have granted email permissions to the app, you will also need to unsubscribe from app emails.

If you want to ignore all application requests from a specific friend, go to the Application’s or Games Dashboard by selecting "Applications" or "Games" from the Left Menu on your home page. Then, click "Ignore all requests from (your friends name)."

You can also block friends from sending you application invites from the "Block Lists" section of the Privacy Settings page.

Blocking an app means it will not be able to access any information about you or send you any requests.

If you received a request for an app and you want to block it:

1. Go to your app request.
2. Click the 'x' button next to the request.
3. When you see the yellow box, click the block app link.

If you have not received a request for an app and you want to block it:

1. Enter the app's name in Search.
2. Scroll down and click See More Results. (Do not click on the apps’s "Game" result — this will take you to the application’s canvas page rather than its profile page.)
3. From the left-hand column of your search results, click Apps.
4. Click the View App button to the right of the search result to view the app's profile page.
5. Click the Block Application link in the left column of the page.

You can see all your blocked apps in the Block Lists section of your Privacy Preferences Page. If you want to remove any applications from this list, click Unblock. You'll need to grant the app permissions again if you would like to re-add it to your profile.

To remove an app:

1. Open the Account dropdown menu at the top right corner of Facebook and click Account Settings.
2. From the menu in the left column, select Application Settings.
3. Click the app you'd like to remove, then click the Remove app link. Once you confirm you’d like to remove the application, it will no longer have access to your data. It will be removed from your profile, bookmarks, and your Apps and Games home page dashboards.

To get to your Application Settings:

1. Open the Account dropdown menu at the top right corner of Facebook and click Account Settings.
2. From the menu in the left column, select Application Settings. From here, you can manage settings for each individual app you've authorized.

To get to your general settings for Apps and Websites:

1. Open the Account menu at the top left corner of Facebook and pick Privacy Settings.
2. Under the Apps and Websites heading, click Edit your settings. From here, you can turn off all platform apps, control what information is open to your friends through apps and websites they use, and more.

You should report any issues that occur within a single application to that application’s developer. You can do this by going to the application’s Profile and clicking Contact Developer in the left column, or by clicking the Report/Contact this app link at the bottom of any canvas page within the application. From here, you'll see an option to contact the developer directly.

The following are some common examples of when to contact a developer and when to contact Facebook:

Contact a developer when:

1. The application is not working properly
2. You have a question about a transaction that took place within the application.
3. The application contains inappropriate content
4. You have a question about how an application is using your information
5. You want to report an interaction with another user that took place within the application

Contact Facebook when:

1. The same issue is occurring in multiple applications
2. The application is asking for your Facebook username and password
3. You have feedback on your experience with applications on Facebook

The Application Dashboard and Games Dashboard have been added to make it easier for you to interact with your favorite applications and games, as well as discover new ones. The dashboards allow you to view the latest applications or games with which you and your friends have interacted.

Additionally, the Games Dashboard is a dedicated space for games on Facebook, so you can receive personalized updates from your applications to remind you if it's your turn in a game or to let you know that a friend has taken an action in that application. To access the dashboard for an application or game, simply click on that application in your left navigation column.

To add an app, group, or page to your home page Favorites list:

1. From the left-hand column, hover over an app or group and click the to the left of it.
2. Select Add to Favorites from the dropdown menu.

Now it’s in your Favorites section on the right-hand column of the home page. If you want, you can rearrange bookmarks in this section to meet your preferences.

With the exception of News Feed, you can remove, replace or rearrange all items in your Favorites section.

You can rearrange bookmarks for any apps, groups, or pages that you have in your Favorites section. This section is at the top of the right-hand column on your home page.

To rearrange this section:

1. Hover over the app or group and click the .
2. Select Rearrange from the dropdown menu.
3. Grab the bookmarks with your mouse. Drag and drop them where you want to place them.
4. Click Done when you’re finished.
