Adding friends
Search for your friend’s profile using the search bar at the top of your profile. Find the person you know and click on the "Add as Friend" button to the right of their profile name.
A friend request will be sent to that person. Once they confirm that they actually are friends with you, they will show up on your friends list.
Please note that privacy settings may limit your ability to see the "Add as Friend" link for some users.

Facebook is a place for connecting with friends, family, and other people you know personally.
If you’ve been prevented from adding friends on Facebook, it’s likely because friend requests you’ve sent have gone unanswered or members reported your contact as unwelcome.
You’ll be allowed to add friends again soon. At that time, please remember to only send friend requests and messages to people who you already know personally. Otherwise, additional limits may be placed on your account.

Be sure to only send friend requests to people you know personally. We may block you from sending friend requests if requests you’ve sent have gone unanswered or members reported your contact as unwelcome.

Removing friend requests
Clicking "Not Now" will hide the request so you can take action on it later. If you choose to hide a friend request, a notification for the request will no longer appear on your home page. To confirm or delete the request later:
If you hide or delete a friend request, the sender won't know.
- Go to the Requests page.
- Select "See Hidden Requests."
- You can confirm or delete individual requests or delete all of your hidden requests.

Pending friend requests
Please provide adequate time for the person to take action on the request as they may have missed the notification email or may have not seen it on their Home page yet. If you sent this request using the Friend Finder, please make sure that you sent it to an email address that is listed on this person's account. If the request was sent to a different email address, then it will not appear in their account.

There's currently no place on the site where you can see all your sent pending requests. However, if you go to someone's profile you can tell your friend status based on the following.
- If you see "Add as Friend," then you don't have a friend request pending.
- If you see "Awaiting friend confirmation," you'll know that you've sent a request that hasn't yet been confirmed.
- If you see the "Remove friend" link, you'll know you've both confirmed your friendship.

The Edit Friends page is where you can manage your Friend Lists, browse and get information about current friends, and find or invite new friends. To get there, select the "Edit Friends" option from the Account drop-down menu in the upper right corner of the site. All of your friends and Pages are displayed in alphabetical order. You can remove contacts you uploaded using friend finder here.
Although we cannot retract invitations that have already been sent, you can delete contacts from your Invite History list. This will prevent any future invitation reminders from being sent to these people.

Friend connections on Facebook must be confirmed by both users involved. This happens through an initial friend request or invitation to join the site and a confirmation of the request by the recipient. It is not technically possible to become friends with someone without this confirmation.
A friend request can be sent manually or through features like Friend Finder and Classmate/Co-worker Search.
When using these features, please be aware that multiple friend requests and invitations can be sent simultaneously. If a user signs up through these invitations, they will automatically be added to your friend list.
