General Information
The Connection Search feature helps you make real-life connections. Based on your education, work, and other related information, we provide you with search results of people who might be of interest to you in your job search or work life.

Connection Search search results are tailored to the information that you enter in your Job Search information fields. This includes your work/education history, industries you’re interested in, and current status (such as looking for a job, have already accepted an offer, or work full-time).

For example, if you are currently looking for a job in a particular industry, the Connection Search results may show other students at your college who are also looking for a job in that industry, or alumni from your college who work in that industry. Or, if you have already accepted an offer from a company, the Connection Search results may show your classmates who have also accepted an offer from the same company.

You can find the Connection Search feature in the left navigation menu of your home page, where your Facebook features and Platform application features are (you may have to click "See More" to find it). Note that this feature is currently only available for users located in Japan who are using the site in English or Japanese. If you think you should see this feature but cannot find it, please report it to us here.

Using Connection Search
The first step is to fill out your Connection Search information. This helps the Connection Search feature surface people who might be of interest in your job search or work life. You can fill out your Connection Search information by clicking the "Edit" button at the top of the Connection Search page.

While editing this page, you have the option to enter your current job status, work and education information, and the industries in which you are interested in working. Note that the High School, College/University, and Employer sections here are the same as the "Education and Work" section on your Profile, meaning that the education and work information you enter here will also appear on your Profile. However, the Industries of Interest and Current Status sections will not be displayed in your Profile. These sections are only used to produce search results. You can come back and update this information anytime by clicking the "Edit" button at the top of the Connection Search page.

Once you have filled out the information, click the "Save Changes" button to save the changes you have made. You should now see the Connection Search results.

There are a couple of reasons why you might not be seeing search results for Connection Search. One reason could be that there may not be anyone who falls under a particular category yet. As more people use this feature and fill out their Connection Search information, more people should be listed in the results.

Another reason could be that you did not fill out sections of your Connection Search information, such as your Current Status, Industries of Interest, school, or Employer field. Without this information, the Connection Search feature cannot surface the most relevant results for you. You can learn more about Connection Search and privacy here.

If you see this box, it means that you have not yet filled out the Current Status field in your Connection Search information. The Current Status field allows Connection Search to surface the most interesting and relevant results for your particular work status. Please select the appropriate status if you would like to see more search results.

You can only select up to ten Industries of Interest. Please try removing some before adding more industries.

Privacy for Connection Search
In displaying search results, Connection Search will fully respect your existing Basic Directory Information privacy settings for search and education/work. For example, if your education/work information were visible to "Friends of Friends," you would be listed in the school-related search results for your friends and their friends, but not for anyone else. For the most optimal experience with Connection Search, we recommend that you set your work/education information to "Public" or "Friends of Friends."

The Current Status and Interested Industries sections are a little different from your education and work information. They are never displayed on your Profile, but they are used to help the Connection Search feature display the most optimal search results for you and others. While your education/work and search privacy settings decide whether or not your listing will be displayed, your Current Status and Industries of Interest information decide what Connection Search section your search results will appear in.

For example, say you have selected "Real Estate" for your Industries of Interest and your Current Status is "college student, looking for a full-time job." If your education/work privacy settings were set to "Friends of Friends," your friends and their friends who listed the same college and interested industries as you might see your listing under "Classmates with interest in similar industries." However, anyone else would not see your listing, even if they had the same interested industries and same school, since your privacy settings for work/education is limited to friends of friends.

The Connection Search feature looks at the work, education, industries of interest, and current status sections of the Connection Search information to surface results. In displaying results, it fully respects a person’s privacy settings for their work/education information and search.

You can control whether you will be surfaced in Connection Search results in several ways. First, you can change the visibility of your work/education information in the Basic Directory Information section of your privacy settings. Alternatively, you can change the privacy settings for who is allowed to search for you on Facebook, which you can also do from this page. Note that if you're visible to fewer people, it can prevent you from connecting with your real world friends.

Remember that the Connection Search tool is intended to help you and others make real-world connections. For the most optimal experience with Connection Search, we recommend that you set your work/education information to "Public" or "Friends of Friends."
